On Monday, August 24, 13 of our junior golfers, ranging in age from 8 to 14, took to the course for the Monday Junior Day 9-Hole Championship.
The event was created to give our younger and newer golfers a fun introduction to tournament-style golf. While two 18-hole competitive rounds can be a big step for developing players, the nine-hole format gave juniors a chance to experience friendly competition, keep their own score and become more familiar with the standard rules of golf — hopefully building confidence to take part in the Junior Club Championship in the future.
The weather provided a little extra tournament experience, with rain falling off and on throughout the morning. The juniors were great sports and handled the conditions well — a good reminder that in tournament golf, you don’t always get the perfect day!
Congratulations to this year’s winners:
Overall 9-Hole Champion: Avery VanderBaaren
Female 9-Hole Champion: Macy Sexton
Longest Putt (#1): Jack Hammond
Closest to the Pin (#9): Jack Hammond
Congratulations to all 13 juniors who competed and made the day such a success. It was great to see players of different ages and experience levels out on the course competing, learning and having fun.
We hope this is just the beginning of many more tournament rounds for this group of young golfers!
