Club History
The Brockville Country Club was founded in 1914, the first President being John A. MacKenzie. The club house was located on the shores of the St. Lawrence River – its nine hole golf course just at the westerly Brockville City limits had two holes on the south side of the King’s Highway and seven holes on the north side. The club house was destroyed by fire in late November 1937, rebuilt for the following season, and occupied thereafter until October 1976.
Curling has been enjoyed in Brockville since 1905, and played in various locations until 1948. That year, the Brockville Curling Club was founded, with club house facilities and four sheets of ice located on Garden Street. Edwin C. Cossitt was its first President. These premises were vacated inthe spring of 1976.
The Brockville Country Club amalgamated with the Brockville Curling Club in 1976 and constituted by Provincial Charter on January 30, 1976. D. Bruce Ker was President of a Parent Board during amalgamation, and the first President of the newly formed club. The official opening was celebrated on November 27, 1976. The Club provided six sheets of curling ice and an eighteen hole golf course – seven holes of the original course were retained and eleven new holes were constructed north of the existing holes. The Club House offers excellent facilities on two levels, with its main dining room and lounge on the upper floor, and a lower lounge for eating in a more casual atmosphere – both dining areas overlook the golf course. In addition, an attractive small dining room is a convenience for private parties.
The Club is a semi-private facility that offers memberships but is also open to the public for golf, curling and social functions. In all aspects of its operation, the club is used by many community based groups. During the summer months, the curling rink becomes The Granite Hall and has been made available for large annual receptions, for such golf tournaments as the Palliative Care, Rotary Classic and Sherwood Park Manor tournaments, where numbers cannot be accommodated in the main Club House. Also during the summer months the club hosts a Summer Series of Dinner/Show/Dances in the Granite Hall catering to 300 plus participants. The Brockville Country Club has also been host to a number of provincial events including the 2007 Junior Provincial Curling Championships, the 2007 Senior Winter Games and the Senior Winter Games in 2009.
We are proud of our Club’s comfortable and friendly atmosphere, fine golf course and curling facility, and extend a warm welcome to prospective members and guests to the club from the local community and well beyond. Our club is a home away from home for many of our members and it has been the premier social and recreational facility serving Brockville since 1914.
